AOL Buys Weblog Inc
AOL is buying is buying Weblogs Inc., Jason Calcanis's stable of 85 blogs, including such stalwarts as Engadget, Autoblog and BloggingBaby. Terms of the deal weren't announced, but are rumored to be in the $25 million range. As if that weren't enough, the buzz was stoked by rumors that News Corp. was set to buy Nick Denton's Gawker gossip blog empire (not true, says Nick: 'The whole point about blogs is that they're not part of big media.') and the report, this one accurate, that Gawker's popular Gizmodo gadget blog will be distributed by Dutch media company VNU across Europe in six languages, with locally relevant content added. So is it safe to start dreaming about blogging your way to fortune? Skepticism remains high.
