Why Oil Prices are so High

Oil prices always fluctuated but something happened a couple of years ago that caused them to skyrocket. Now they still fluctuate but at a MUCH higher average (around $60/barrel compared to about $20 not so long ago). I've always wanted to know why gas prices have doubled over the past couple of years - this article from the IMF explains it well.
